Hadley is studying Graphic Design as a third year student at PSU.
Q: What are your favorite art mediums to work with?
A: It definitely varies for me, I enjoy a lot of mediums acrylic, marker, even photography and lots of mixed media but lately I’ve been really finding myself in digital art. It allows for me to explore composition with the freedom to come and go with what I illustrate, it can be sort of freeing at times honestly.
Q: How does your daily life inspire your art?
A: Most of my drawings come from something I explored in my personal journal, the subject of my journal is sort of a jumbled synopsis of my daily intimate experience. I think that’s the inspiration I take from my daily life, as my art is made from the content of my innermost feelings which honestly, sometimes can be really ugly and shameful for me.
Q: How do you go about transforming an idea into a finished project?
A: Usually I need to do a rough sketch of my idea, things in my mind look very different on paper so it’s really beneficial for me to get it on paper so even I can understand it. Once I have that loose sketch I usually feel like I have enough ground to actually go about exploring starting the piece, which means that I won’t move from it until I get to a point I’m somewhat satisfied with, I find that if I leave with the piece in a state I don’t feel happy with that means I probably will never finish it.
Q: Do you have any advice for other artists?
A: Comparing yourself to others is only beneficial in moderation, it’s really easy to get down on yourself because there is always someone better and more talented than you. Sometimes the best is art is the kind we make with no one else in mind. I know that’s really kitchy to say but I know how painful a constant comparison mind can be.
Q: What are your goals?
A: Mostly I hope to hone how I can intertwine my art into my work in Graphic Design. And honestly just move forward with my art however that might look, I don’t necessarily need it to look one way I more just hope that I continue to grow and make.
